Privacy policy

My Boiled Egg is built to need as little personal data as possible: there are no accounts, no sign-up, and your settings stay in your own browser. This page explains what does get processed, and why.

Who is responsible

My Boiled Egg (myboiledegg.com) is an independent website. For any question about privacy, or to exercise your rights, contact hello@myboiledegg.com.

What is processed

Calculations

When you change a setting, the page sends the egg details you entered (weight, temperatures, altitude and similar) to our server to calculate the times. These details are not linked to you. Results may be kept in a cache so the next person asking the same question gets an instant answer.

Settings stored in your browser

Your language, temperature unit, level of detail and last settings are saved in your browser's local storage, on your device, so the page is ready when you come back. They are not sent to us. You can remove them by clearing this site's data in your browser.

Server logs and abuse protection

Like most websites, our server records technical information about each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested and your browser's user agent. We use it to keep the service secure and working, and to limit abuse (for example, too many calculations from one address). Logs are kept for at most 30 days.

Lock-screen alerts

If you switch on alerts, your browser asks your permission and then gives us a push address for your device, issued by your browser's push service (for example Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft). We store it only to send the alert at the end of your timer and delete it once the alert has been sent or cancelled. You can turn alerts off at any time on the page or in your browser settings.

Analytics

We may measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without tracking you across websites.

Advertising

This site may show ads from Google AdSense to pay for its running costs. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar identifiers to show ads, to limit how often you see them and to measure their performance. With your consent, ads may be personalised based on your visits to this and other websites. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are asked for that consent through Google's consent message; you can change your choice at any time from the link it provides.

Legal bases

Where the GDPR applies, we process data to provide the service you request (calculations, alerts), on the basis of our legitimate interest in running a secure and reliable website (logs, abuse protection, cookieless analytics), and with your consent (personalised advertising, push alerts).

Where data is processed

Our server is hosted by DigitalOcean in the United States. Our domain and analytics are provided by Cloudflare, and advertising by Google. These providers may process data in other countries under their own safeguards.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data about you, to object to or restrict its processing, to withdraw consent, and to complain to your data protection authority. Because we do not keep accounts, we usually hold nothing that identifies you beyond short-lived server logs. Write to hello@myboiledegg.com and we will answer.

Children

This site is not directed at children under 13, or under 16 in the European Economic Area.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
